Pickup Basketball

A little known athletic opportunity at Trinity, the outdoor basketball courts next to the tennis courts is always busy with people playing 5 on 5 pickup basketball. Then how, you ask, does no one from Trinity know about or take advantage of the courts? Because in large part, the groups of people that play on the courts do not attend Trinity University. For some students, this deters them from trying to play on the courts, and at first it deterred me as well. This was until a buddy of mine that had befriended some of the people that played on the courts took me over to play. The groups that play on the courts are generally competitive, but are extremely welcoming to newcomers. Just because you don't know anyone on the courts is no reason to not join in. I have had some tiring but very fun games on the courts the past month I have been playing. Hopefully more people at Trinity will realize the amount of fun that can be had at the outdoor basketball courts and will utilize them in the future. The basketball courts are one of my favorite sport opportunities on campus.

Intramurals

In the past month, intramurals have become a large part of my Trinity life. I have gone from not playing a single intramural last year, to now considering playing every season. I am currently playing intramural flag football and loving every minute of it. With full 11 man teams, a regular season schedule, playoffs, and a championship, I have found intramurals to be the closest thing to playing an actual college sport. With sports ranging from soccer to softball, there really is a chance to play the sport of your choosing. At the higher levels, especially in the more popular sports, the games can be quite competitive with both teams striving to win. I love the fact that there is an opportunity for anyone to play a competitive sport in college and to have a blast doing so. So far, flag football has not disappointed with some really wonderful moments and I'm sure many more to come. Hopefully, the rest of the intramural sports this year will be just as exciting and just as rewarding. Ultimately, I foresee intramurals becoming a regular aspect of my college life and hopefully something I will remember and enjoy for the rest of my life.
